BlogMutt has reported in its email to writers that it has suspended the adding of new writers for the first time in its history. The message says: “We think that our writer community is stronger than ever, and we want to make sure that there are plenty of jobs available for our best writers to let their talents shine.” In other words, it doesn’t want to spread the available work too thin. If you try to apply, the website tells you:
We are not currently accepting new writer applications. Please enter your information and we’ll contact you when our application process is reopened (approx. 3-5 months). Thanks for your interest in becoming a BlogMutt writer!
I think that BlogMutt is one of the best sites of its kind to write for. The topics are interesting, the pay is OK (though far short of what direct clients pay), and the staff and writer community are very supportive. The suspension is good news for me, since it means less competition for customers, but not such good news for you if you were thinking of applying as a writer. You can still get on the waiting list. Only US citizens are accepted as writers.
This doesn’t mean that BlogMutt is in any kind of trouble. It appears to be doing very well at the moment. Writing sites typically get more interested writers than there are clients to support them, so they have to limit applicants one way or another. Most sites (including BlogMutt) have a fairly tough vetting process. Closing off new applications suggests that the company has been really successful in attracting writers.
